How skilled migration to Australia works.
It is a points-tested system
Australia selects skilled migrants on points. You earn points for your age, your English, your qualifications and your work experience, and the more you score, the stronger your chances of an invitation to apply for permanent residence. The minimum is 65 points, but in practice you want as high as possible.
Step one: a skills assessment
Your occupation must sit on Australia’s skilled occupation lists, and you need a positive skills assessment from the assessing authority for that occupation. This confirms your qualifications and experience meet the Australian standard. We help you identify your occupation and prepare the assessment.
Step two: your English score
English is worth real points. A Superior result is worth up to 20 points, a Proficient result up to 10, often the gap between an invitation and a long wait. Australia accepts IELTS, PTE Academic and TOEFL iBT, and this is exactly where Mafit is strongest.
Step three: the EOI and the invitation
You submit an Expression of Interest through SkillSelect with your points claim. When your score is competitive, the Department issues an invitation to apply, and you lodge your visa with full documentation. We prepare and guide the whole file.
The main visa routes
Most people use the Skilled Independent visa (189), which needs no sponsor, the Skilled Nominated visa (190), with a state or territory nomination worth extra points, or the Skilled Work Regional visa (491), a provisional route that leads to permanent residence.
From PR to citizenship
Permanent residence lets you live in Australia indefinitely, with Medicare and family included. After meeting the residence requirement you can apply for Australian citizenship. This is legal, documented migration handled by an openly operating Nigerian team, and the final decision rests with the Australian authorities.

Points peak in your late twenties and early thirties, then taper. Younger applicants score strongly.

A Superior result is worth up to 20 points, Proficient up to 10. This is where we move you.

Skilled work experience
Years of relevant skilled work, in Nigeria and abroad, count toward your score.
Partner skills
A skilled partner, or being single, can add points to your claim.
State or regional
A 190 state nomination adds 5 points and a 491 regional route adds 15.

Skilled Independent, 189
The route for skilled workers whose occupation is on the relevant list and who need no sponsor or nominator. You are invited purely on your points, and it is a permanent visa from the day it is granted, letting you and your family live and work anywhere in Australia.
Skilled Nominated, 190
You are nominated by an Australian state or territory, which adds 5 points and can open occupations not available on the 189. In return you commit to living in that state for a period. It is also a permanent visa for you and your family.
Skilled Work Regional, 491
A provisional visa for skilled workers nominated by a state or sponsored by an eligible relative in regional Australia. It adds 15 points, the biggest boost in the system, and after you meet the income and residence conditions it leads to permanent residence through the 191 visa.
Employer Sponsored, 186 and 482
If an Australian employer wants to sponsor you, the Employer Nomination Scheme, 186, is a direct permanent route, while the Skills in Demand visa, 482, is a temporary work visa that can lead to permanent residence. We assess honestly whether a sponsor route is realistic for you.

In Australia’s points test, your English score is points. A Superior result, IELTS 8 across the four skills or PTE Academic 79, is worth up to 20 points. Proficient is worth 10. That single factor often decides who gets invited and who keeps waiting.
