The Mafit Difference · 04 Reasons

Four reasons Nigerian candidates register their GRE through Mafit.

It starts with something most outlets cannot claim: Mafit is an approved official GRE and TOEFL test centre in Nigeria. Here is what registering with us gives you that going it alone or paying a generic prep outlet cannot.

Official test centre

You register through an approved official test centre, not a middleman.

Our Abuja centre is listed on the official GRE and TOEFL booking sites as a recognised testing site. You are booking the real thing.

Mafit is an approved official GRE and TOEFL testing centre in Nigeria. Our Abuja centre is listed on the official GRE and TOEFL booking sites as a recognised testing site, so registering through us means booking with an ETS-recognised centre, not an unaffiliated reseller. You pay in naira, by bank transfer or card, and we complete your official ETS booking on your behalf. You choose your date from the live slot calendar, reserve your seat, and then track every step, payment, booking details and test day, from the Mafit app.

Everything included

One fee opens the whole prep stack, nothing sold back to you.

Most centres charge separately for classes, books and mocks. We put them in one registration.

Your ₦380,000 registration covers 12 weeks of free classes, four times a week, physical and live online, plus the core materials: Magoosh Premium, the Manhattan 5lb, Kaplan, Princeton Review and the Official GRE Super Power Pack from ETS. You also get six full-length section-adaptive mock tests and AWA essay reviews graded on the official scale. Inside the Mafit app, a Virtual Tutor answers your quant, verbal and essay questions any time, and writing and speaking practice give you instant feedback between classes. None of it is a paid add-on.

Know your score

Prep that shows you exactly where you stand, every week.

You never guess your readiness. A diagnostic and six mocks tell you, on the real scale.

From week one, a diagnostic places you on the official 130 to 170 per-section scale, and six full mocks across the 12 weeks track your climb toward your target. The Mafit app shows your best score against your goal, so you always know what is left to close. The structured lectures, the mocks and the tutor feedback are built to move a Nigerian candidate from a cold start to a strong, competitive GRE score. You set the target, we build the plan to reach it.

Every state

From anywhere in Nigeria, your GRE and your prep travel with you.

You do not have to be in Lagos to get the full programme.

Physical hubs in Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt, plus live online classes that put a candidate in Yola in the same session as one in Calabar. Our Abuja centre is an approved official GRE and TOEFL test venue, listed on the official booking sites, so test day happens at a recognised centre and not a borrowed room. You pay in naira, by transfer or card, and we settle ETS for you. And with Pay Small Small you start from ₦100,000 and complete the balance when you are ready to pick your date, so prep can begin on payday rather than several pay cycles later.

Since September 2023, ETS has run a shorter GRE. The Issue essay is the only writing task. Verbal and Quant each have two section-adaptive blocks. There is no scheduled break. Your scores release in 8 to 10 days, not 15.

01Analytical Writing

One essay. Thirty minutes. No more Argument task.

The Argument essay has been removed. You write a single 30-minute Issue essay, taking a position on a general topic and defending it with reasoning, evidence and examples. Scored 0 to 6 in half-point steps by an ETS human rater plus the e-rater AI engine. The combined score is rounded.

Two adaptive blocks. Vocabulary still rules.

12 questions in 18 minutes (Section 1) then 15 questions in 23 minutes (Section 2). Section 2 difficulty adapts based on Section 1 performance. Question types: Reading Comprehension, Text Completion, Sentence Equivalence. 250 high-frequency words drive most score gains.

Everything you are wondering

GRE in Nigeria, asked.

Q1How much does the GRE cost in Nigeria in 2026?
The standard GRE registration fee in Nigeria in 2026 is ₦405,000 through Mafit Study Centre. When you register with promo code MAFIT you unlock a ₦25,000 discount, bringing your total GRE registration cost to ₦380,000 . This makes Mafit the most affordable official GRE registration outlet in Nigeria today. What sets your Mafit registration apart is everything bundled with it. Your fee includes 12 weeks of free physical classes, free live online lectures, six full-length mock tests, Magoosh GRE Premium access, the Official GRE Super Power Pack from ETS, the Manhattan 5 lb book, Kaplan GRE, Princeton Review GRE Premium and over 1,800 practice questions at no additional cost. Mafit Tip Apply discount code MAFIT at registration to receive your ₦25,000 reduction. The discount cannot be combined with other promotions but it is the largest single discount any GRE outlet in Nigeria offers right now.
Q2What is the MAFIT discount and how do I apply it?
MAFIT is Mafit's exclusive promo code that gives Nigerian candidates a ₦25,000 discount on the standard GRE registration. Instead of paying the full ₦405,000 , you pay ₦380,000 . To apply MAFIT, simply mention the code when you register through Mafit, either via our online registration page or by calling +234 201 330 9487. The discount is applied automatically at checkout. It cannot be stacked with other promotions and applies to first-time GRE registrations.
Q3Can I spread my Mafit GRE payment in instalments?
Yes. Mafit operates a Pay Small Small plan that lets you start with as little as ₦100,000 . That first ₦100,000 begins your lectures and prep straight away, and you complete the balance of ₦280,000 whenever you are ready to pick your test date. There is no rigid schedule and no interest. Pay Small Small is the same total as registering in full, ₦380,000 with the MAFIT discount, simply split so you can begin prep now and settle the rest when you lock your sitting. Mafit Tip Most candidates start lectures on their first ₦100,000, then clear the balance before choosing a date. We will help you map it on your discovery call.
Q4How far in advance should I book my GRE test date?
Book at least 13 to 14 weeks before your sitting . That gives you the full 12 weeks of Mafit prep, plus a one to two week buffer for unexpected interruptions like NEPA outages or family commitments. From a university application angle, work backwards from the earliest deadline on your list. Most US Fall 2027 graduate applications close between December 1 and January 15. ETS releases scores in 8 to 10 days, but allow a 5-day buffer for score reports to reach the universities. So your latest possible GRE date for a December 1 deadline is around October 25. Lagos slots fill fastest for Monday and Thursday morning sittings. If you have a specific date in mind, book at least 12 weeks ahead, preferably 14.
Q5Where can I sit the GRE with Mafit in Nigeria?
Mafit is an approved official GRE and TOEFL test centre, with our Abuja centre listed on the official ETS booking site. We prepare candidates at centres in three cities: Lagos, at 3rd Floor, MAN House, 77 Obafemi Awolowo Way, Ikeja. Abuja, at 5th Floor, Unity Bank Towers, Plot 785, 1 Herbert Macaulay Way, Central Business District. Port Harcourt, at Riz Plaza, Plot 19, Stadium Road, Rumuomasi, Rivers State. You sit the GRE at an official test centre, and if travelling is not convenient, we also set you up for the official GRE at Home, which you sit from anywhere in Nigeria with a webcam and a stable internet connection. Either way, we handle the booking and confirm your date and seat for you, so there is nothing for you to arrange separately. Mafit Tip Tell us your city on your discovery call and we will book you into the most convenient official centre or get your at-home sitting ready.
Q6How long is the new shorter GRE in 2026?
The current GRE General Test runs for 1 hour and 58 minutes . ETS reduced the test from the older 3 hours 45 minutes format in September 2023, and that shorter structure has remained the standard for 2024, 2025 and 2026. If a centre in Nigeria still advertises a 3 hour 45 minute GRE, that information is out of date. Mafit updated its prep to match the shorter test as soon as the change took effect, so your classes reflect the current format. Common Myth Some say the shorter GRE is easier. That is incorrect. With fewer questions, each question carries more weight on your final score. The test is more efficient, not less rigorous.
Q7How long should I prepare for the GRE in Nigeria?
Most Nigerian candidates need 10 to 12 weeks of focused preparation to reach a 320 plus GRE score from a cold start. The Mafit GRE programme runs over 12 weeks of structured classes, with the revision and mock sprint built into the final weeks. The exact length depends on three factors: Your starting baseline. A diagnostic mock in week one tells us where you are. Candidates already in the 305 to 315 range can move faster through the early weeks. Candidates starting below 290 should use the full 12 weeks. Your target score. A 310 target needs less than a 325 target. The difference between 310 and 325 is the difference between accurate basics and mastery of GRE traps. Your weekly study hours. 12 hours a week works for most. Below 8 hours a week, plan for the full 12 weeks and add extra self-study.
Q8What does the 12-week Mafit GRE class look like week by week?
The 12-week programme is structured as follows: Week 1. Diagnostic mock. Verbal and Quant baseline tests. AWA Issue essay framework. Magoosh and Manhattan account activation. Week 2. Verbal Reasoning foundations. Text Completion and Sentence Equivalence vocabulary systems. Week 3. Reading Comprehension fundamentals and drills. Week 4. Quantitative Reasoning foundations. Arithmetic and number properties. Calculator strategy and mental maths shortcuts. Week 5. Mock 1 plus debrief. Algebra and word problems. Week 6. Geometry and coordinate geometry. Quantitative Comparison patterns. Week 7. Mock 2 plus debrief. Data interpretation. Issue essay drafting with peer review. Week 8. Reading Comprehension at speed. Advanced verbal reasoning. Week 9. Mock 3. Advanced quant problem-solving and common traps. Week 10. Mock 4. Section adaptive pacing. Verbal high-frequency words. Week 11. Mock 5. Full timed rehearsal. AWA polish. Week 12. Mock 6. Test day rehearsal. Score release walk-through. Classes meet four times a week. Monday and Wednesday cover Verbal. Tuesday and Thursday cover Quant. Friday is AWA plus open clinic. Weekend Tag-Team sessions are peer-led.
Q9How many full-length mocks does Mafit provide and when do I take them?
You get six full-length GRE mocks through Mafit, plus two free PowerPrep tests from ETS, totalling eight realistic simulations. The mock schedule is: Mock 0 (Diagnostic). Week 1. Untimed if needed, just to establish baseline. Mock 1. End of week 5. First full checkpoint. Mock 2. End of week 7. Strategy calibration mock. Mock 3. Week 9. Timed under realistic conditions. Mock 4. Week 10. Back-to-back stamina practice. Mock 5. Week 11. Final calibration, and it should be your best score before test day. Mock 6. Week 12. Full test day rehearsal. Every mock is scored on the official 130 to 170 scale per section, using the same section adaptive logic as the real GRE. We provide a question-by-question debrief within 48 hours.
Q10What is a good GRE score for a Nigerian candidate in 2026?
A good GRE score is 320 or above on the 260 to 340 scale. This means a combined Verbal plus Quantitative score of 320, with both sections balanced. What "good" means varies by destination and programme tier: Top 10 US universities (Harvard, MIT, Stanford): 330 plus, with section scores above 165. Top 25 US universities (Carnegie Mellon, Cornell, Berkeley): 325 plus. Top 50 US universities (Georgia Tech, Michigan, NYU): 315 plus. Mid-tier US graduate schools: 305 to 315. Programmes that accept GRE optionally: 300 plus shows commitment. For STEM programmes (Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Maths), the Quantitative score matters most. Aim for 165 plus on Quant. For humanities and business, Verbal carries more weight. Aim for 160 plus on Verbal.
Q11How long are GRE scores valid for university applications?
GRE scores are valid for five years from your test date. A GRE taken in January 2026 will count for applications submitted up to January 2031. ETS automatically retires scores older than five years from your reportable record. Most US universities want scores from within three years. A few competitive programmes prefer scores from within two years. Always check the specific programme website. For Nigerian candidates planning to apply for a Fall 2027 or Spring 2028 intake, taking the GRE by mid 2027 gives you ample buffer. Mafit Tip Do not delay your GRE waiting for a perfect prep moment. Sit it once in your target window. If your score is below target, you can retake. If it is above target, the score sits in your ETS account ready to send when applications open.
Q12If I score below my target, can I retake the GRE?
Yes. You can retake the GRE up to five times in a rolling 12-month period , with a 21-day waiting period between attempts. So if your first attempt is January 5, your earliest retake is January 26. If you retake, we design a focused 21-day retake plan with daily Magoosh drills, two refresher mocks and an AWA tune-up. Common Myth Some Nigerian candidates believe universities frown on multiple GRE attempts. They do not. Universities see your best ScoreSelect score, and many admissions officers say it is better to retake and improve than to apply with a weak score.
Q13Should I take the GRE or the GMAT for an MBA?
Both the GRE and GMAT are accepted by virtually every top global MBA programme in 2026, including Harvard Business School, Stanford GSB, Wharton, INSEAD, London Business School and Lagos Business School. Schools officially state they have no preference between the two. In practice, the GRE is the better choice for Nigerian MBA candidates in three situations: You are also considering a Master's degree. The GRE keeps both MBA and MS doors open. The GMAT is MBA-only. You are stronger in Verbal than Quant. GRE Verbal is more vocabulary-heavy and forgiving than GMAT Verbal, which leans on logical reasoning that some candidates find harder. You prefer flexible pacing. GRE lets you skip and return within a section. GMAT does not. The GMAT remains slightly preferred at some traditional finance and consulting recruiters. If your post-MBA target is a major Wall Street bank or McKinsey, ask alumni from those firms what they took.
Q14Is the GRE required for US graduate school applications?
Mostly yes. The United States is the GRE's home market and over 1,200 US universities accept GRE scores for graduate admission. For Master's and PhD programmes in Engineering, Computer Science, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences, Social Sciences, Humanities and most professional fields, the GRE is either required or strongly recommended. Notable exceptions are MBA programmes (which accept GRE or GMAT), JD law programmes (which accept LSAT or GRE), and the growing list of test-optional programmes. Nigerian candidates make up one of the larger international GRE candidate pools applying to US universities, particularly to STEM Master's programmes in Texas, California, New York, Massachusetts and Georgia.
