Your Confirmationof Enrolment. The eCoE. Not the same as an offer, and the visa needs it.
An offer letter is a start, not the finish. The eCoE is the official document the subclass 500 visa requires. Learn what it is, how to get it, and what every line on it means.
An offer isnot enough.
This trips up so many students. You receive a glossy offer letter, feel you are over the line, and assume you can lodge the visa. You cannot. An offer is an invitation to enrol, not proof that you have.
The document the subclass 500 actually requires is the eCoE, your electronic Confirmation of Enrolment. You only get it after you accept an offer and pay the deposit. Understand that one distinction and the whole step makes sense.
Decode the document.
This is what an electronic Confirmation of Enrolment looks like. Tap any line to learn what it means and why the visa cares about it.
Provider & CRICOS code
Confirms your provider and course are registered on CRICOS, the official register of courses for international students.
If the course is not CRICOS-registered, it cannot support a student visa. This is the first thing that is checked.
Offer letter vs eCoE.
They look similar and arrive close together, but they do very different jobs. Here is the difference, side by side.
Offer letter
eCoE
Where are you right now?
Tap your current status in the journey to the eCoE. We will tell you the next move, and whether you can lodge your student visa yet.
Apply for your offers
You are at the start. Shortlist CRICOS courses and apply to providers to receive offers. Nothing visa-related can happen until an offer is in hand.
Conditions & catches.
A few things decide whether and when your eCoE is issued, and whether it later changes. Know them so nothing surprises you.
Conditional offers
Many offers are conditional on final grades, English or documents. Meet the conditions and the offer becomes unconditional, then you can proceed.
The deposit
Paying the required tuition deposit is what triggers the eCoE. It is not an extra fee, it counts toward your tuition.
OSHC alongside
Your health cover is usually arranged around this point, and its dates appear on the eCoE.
Packaged courses
If you package an ELICOS or pathway with your main course, you may receive more than one eCoE.
Deferring or changing
If you defer or switch course, your provider reissues the eCoE with the new details.
Check every line
Before you lodge, confirm names, dates and the eCoE number are correct. Errors cause visa delays.
